About us

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is a leading centre for mental health and neuroscience research in Europe. Research from the IoPPN has made, and continues to make, an impact on how we understand, prevent and treat mental illness, neurological conditions and other conditions that affect the brain.  The Centre for Research in Eating and Weight Disorders (CREW) is a world-leading clinical academic group that aims to advance knowledge of the psychobiological, genetic and social causes and consequences of eating and weight disorders, and to use that knowledge to develop new and better treatments.

About the role

This is a full-time post at CREW, working on the evaluation of First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders (FREED) which has been implemented by eating disorder services across England. FREED is a service model and care package aimed at reducing barriers to early treatment and recovery for emerging adults (16 to 25-year-olds) with recent onset eating disorder (less than 3 years’ duration). The model was developed and piloted at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London. FREED significantly reduces the duration of untreated eating disorders and improves clinical outcomes.

FREED was recently (until 2023) rolled out to all eating disorder services across England. The continued evaluation during the post-scaling period is vital to the ongoing fidelity, development and sustainability of the model. The post holder will work alongside a team of clinicians and researchers under the supervision of Prof Ulrike Schmidt to support this evaluation. Specifically, they will contribute towards data collection, analysis and report writing, liaise with teams, and support other FREED-related administrative and research activities. This post will be based at the Section of Eating Disorders, Department of Psychological Medicine, IoPPN, at the Denmark Hill campus.

This is a full-time post, and will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months.
