The Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care (NMPC) is based in the heart of central and south London. It includes the Cicely Saunders Institute for Palliative Care, Policy & Rehabilitation, the premier Institute for Palliative Care, bringing together clinical, research and education teams.

Our applied clinical and health multidisciplinary research transforms therapies, the healthcare experience and outcomes for patients and those important to them, wherever they are cared for. Our award-winning NMPC education programmes span pre-registration nursing and midwifery, and multidisciplinary post-graduate taught and research programmes.

About the role

You work on a study that aims to find ways to prevent, detect, and manage insulin mediated lipohypertrophy in people with type 1 diabetes. The study will use a co-design approach working together with people with T1D and health professionals to create materials to help people with T1D to prevent and reduce the impact of lipohypertrophy. You would support recruitment, facilitate focus groups and support data analysis. If you have experience of research in type 1 diabetes and undertaking co-design work, we would love to hear from you.

This is a part time post (21 Hours per week), and you will be offered a​ fixed term​ contract until 31 August 2025 or up to 12 months, whichever comes first.

About You

 To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. PhD in a relevant subject area*
  2. MSc in a relevant subject area 
  3. Experience of co-design research
  4. Experience of qualitative research in diabetes
  5. Experience of recruiting NS patients
  6. Good communication skills

Desirable criteria

  1. Evidence of research publication
  2. An understanding of type 1 diabetes

* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
