King’s College London is recruiting an Associate Director Analytics (Internal Reporting) to join its Analytics Department. The role holder is responsible for leading the Internal Reporting team which is comprised of five analysts.

About the role:

As the Associate Director (Internal Reporting), you will lead a high performing team of analysts, and play a leadership role across King’s, supporting improvements in data literacy at all levels and data informed decision making. The work of the Internal Reporting team extends to the extraction, transformation, modelling, visualisation, analysis, presentation and dissemination of information related to a wide variety of data domains. The work of the team plays an integral part in business-critical operations for multifarious core University functions, and you will be key in having oversight and ensuring the smooth delivery of services in this space. 

King’s ambition is to be sector leading in the use of data and analytics to optimise the staff and student experience. The Internal Reporting team is central to the fulfilment of this ambition and works to leverage the value of the institution’s investment in its reporting infrastructure that has been made over recent years.

You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality information in an efficient and sustainable manner to support evidence-based decision-making processes. Towards this end, the role holder is responsible for ensuring the adoption of best practice, high levels of process automation and supporting the continuous development of the analysts within their team and beyond.

Roles & Responsibilities

The role holder will:

•       Lead the team of analysts within the internal reporting team, fostering a high-performing culture and supporting professional development and growth of all team members.

•       Be responsible for the operational management and delivery of the agreed forward workplan and internal reporting schedule.

•       Ensure that the work of the internal reporting team is well coordinated with university priorities, and the data and analytics personnel embedded in other functional areas.

•       Be responsible for ensuring that robust processes and plans exists to ensure continuity of service and support the development of analysts within the team to prevent single points of failure.

•       Support the consistent operation of services through the development and application of formalised processes, house standards and templates.

•       Be accountable for the maintenance and further development of key reporting assets, including the University’s Reporting Catalogue

•       Establish specific areas of personal subject matter knowledge and expertise and play a leading role on behalf of the Analytics Department in key University activities.

•       Take a leading role in written analysis across the internal reporting team’s remit.

•       Oversee report access and security policies and procedures, ensuring that the arrangements are robust, low burden and accurately reflect business requirements.

•       Ensure that robust and responsive feedback mechanisms and monitoring processes exist to be able to accurately assess user satisfaction with current service delivery.

•       Act as an institutional lead for the adoption and wider utilisation of new applications, techniques and technologies such as the Power Platforms suite and the move towards more advanced analytics.

•       Identify opportunities and scope for potential future transformation initiatives. Towards this end, the role holder is expected to network with relevant groups outside the organisation to stay abreast of emerging developments in other sectors.

•       Play a critical role in further developing the organisation’s data and analytics capabilities through having a leadership role in: Power BI training delivery, intensive faculty engagement periods, and the internal professional network, the Business Intelligence Group.

•       In close liaison with colleagues in IT, Analytics and across King’s, lead on the tenancy administration of Power BI. This includes chairing the Power BI administration group, making key decisions regarding service settings, coordinating and tracking related actions, and ensuring the capacity is managed appropriately with best practice in place.

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), though part time arrangements will be considered and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1.      Excellent leadership skills and experience in creating supportive positive working environments.

2.      Advanced data and analytical skills with experience in innovative thinking, conceiving original solutions and delivering challenging information in a constructive and bipartisan manner.

3.      Strong technical background and skills with knowledge of relevant techniques, software (e.g. Power BI, Oracle SQL, SSMS) and programming languages (e.g. SQL, DAX, C#,  Python, R).

4.      Strong organisational skills, able to contend with competing priorities, manage multiple and complex projects across a team and effectively manage stakeholder expectations.

5.      Understanding of data protection legislation in the context of data analysis and reporting.

6.      Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

7.      Commitment to their own personal development and experience of developing others and leading others through change and transformation.

Desirable criteria

1.      Knowledge of the Microsoft Technology Stack (e.g. SSIS, Azure Data Lake, SQL Server, Analysis Services)

2.      Knowledge of the Higher Education sector
