About us

BRAIN Centre is a preclinical neuroimaging facility that uses state-of-the art imaging equipment for researching biomarkers in rodent models of human diseases. We are located at Denmark Hill campus

About the role

The role is aimed to assist scientists from the BRAIN centre undertake several preclinical neuroimaging studies in rodent disease models. A number of biochemistry, histology and molecular biology techniques will be employed using animal tissue and in vivo rodent experimentation, as well as in vivo and ex vivo imaging. The post holder will be responsible for planning and performing wet lab experiments as well as assist with in vivo and ex vivo MRI imaging. The work will be carried out at the James Black Centre and at Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute (Denmark Hill Campus, SE5).

This is a full time job (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an a fixed term contract until 1st February 2025.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1.      BSc or equivalent in neuroscience or biological sciences

2.      Demonstrable initiative, autonomy and self-motivation

3.      Experience of cryosectioning, microsectioning

4.      Experience in performing immunocytochemistry and immunofluorescence staining

5.      Experience of Western Blot

6.      Experience of HPLC

7.      Experience ensuring compliance with protocol guidelines and research governance

Desirable criteria

1.      Experience with the optimization of new antibodies and with immunofluorescence and confocal imaging or slidescanner

2.      Experience with imaging software such as Olyvia, Image J, Visiopharm

3.      Hold or obtain a Home Office personal animal handling licence

4.      Experience in ex-vivo autoradiography

5.      Willingness to work with colleagues on joint projects as required
