This is a key role within the Research Support Team of the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences. The post holder will be responsible to the School Research Manager, as part of the team ensuring that high quality financial data and research management is provided to the School.

About the role

The successful candidate will primarily focus on delivering efficient and effective support of research at King’s, including supporting the School’s academics in the preparation of grant applications, including creating staff costings using WorkTribe, entering information in funder portals, coordinating internal peer review, checking compliance with funder and College policies, and obtaining internal approvals.

The successful candidate will act as the first point of contact for research systems in the School, developing a high degree of expertise with systems including WorkTribe, BusinessWorld, PURE, and funder portals.

They will overall provide efficient operational support to staff and students for research-related work, working closely with the School Research Manager and other member of the team (Research) to provide support for research grant applications and post-award grant administration.

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. You will be expected to work on site at least 3 days per week.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Educated to degree level or relevant experience 
  2. Detailed understanding of research-intensive Higher Education institution, the regulatory context and best practice 
  3. Highly numerate with proven financial management and analytical skills to underpin strategic financial strategic decisions and procedure 
  4. Experience in grant costing for research using specific software e.g. Worktribe 
  5. Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills at all levels 
  6. Experience of building an effective network across a complex organisation and with external stakeholders 
  7. Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment with excellent task management skills both for self and others, meeting tight deadlines 
  8. Commitment to good practice and following process/procedure

Desirable criteria

  1. Proven Professional Services skills gained within the Higher Education sector and a detailed knowledge the regulatory, policy and procedural context along with the challenges and opportunities faced by the sector 
  2. Knowledge of research practice and policy in health (bioscience/medicine) 
  3. Experience of financial planning and implementation, including preparing budget, financial profiling, preparing business cases and plans, and monitoring key performance indicators, budgets and risks 
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality 
  5. Proven commitment to ongoing skills development
