Meet Sara Black, a lecturer with a keen interest in the temporalities and spatialities of education systems, who looks back at her PhD research on social inequality in South Africa. We also hear from PhD candidates Pippa Sterk, who delves into language discourse and her current research on LGBT+ communities in Higher Education, and Liam Cini O’Dwyer who is exploring issues of inclusion and participation from LGBTQ+ youth in science education.

Behind the scenes, our producer Sylvie Carlos, an audio professional and PhD candidate, shares her groundbreaking research into how the British audio industry engages with black audiences, highlighting gaps in literature and the unique challenges and achievements within this space. She gives us a peek into the UK's sound-making world, pointing out how rare it is to find companies owned by Black people. This is something new, especially when you look at the much bigger and tougher scene in the US. Sylvie talks about her experience living in two worlds: one where she studies the industry and another where she's part of it. She finds herself facing tough rules set by academics and sometimes, her research plans don't go as expected, making it hard to just watch without getting involved.
