King’s Foundations is accredited by the British Council for its English language teaching, and we specialise in supporting students to be able to use academic English to excel in their university studies.

The Extended King's International Foundation Programme (IFP) is designed specifically for students who don’t quite meet the English language requirements for the King's International Foundation. As an Extended IFP student, you will receive an additional five weeks of intensive academic English and skills preparation online over the summer, so that you can confidently participate in sessions with other students on the programme from September.

The Extended IFP covers the following and other areas:

  • identifying some of the key differences between academic English and general English
  • producing academic texts by following key generic features
  • extracting information from, and critically engaging with, a range of academic texts
  • participating in class discussions on a variety of academic topics
  • drawing on a range of study skills to manage your learning effectively

The programme also provides a great opportunity for you to practise your English with other students before you meet them on campus in September – you’ll already have friends before Welcome Week.

If your overall IELTS score is 5.5 (or equivalent), with no individual skill below 5.0, then apply for the Extended IFP and join us for an English boost before the start of term.

However, if your overall IELTS score is 6.0 overall (or equivalent), with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill, you may be eligible to apply for the King's International Foundation Programme
