Preserving the films of Hussein Shariffe

The importance of establishing digital cultural archives has been brought to the forefront by the war in Sudan, where museums, libraries and collections have been destroyed or looted, causing huge cultural and community losses for current and future generations.

Erica Carter, Fellow of the Global Cultures Institute and Professor in German and Film, has been working on Activating the Exile, a project aiming to preserve the works of Hussein Shariffe, a pioneering Sudanese filmmaker who spent much of his life unable to return to his home country.
