This event is a World Refugee Day celebration at King’s. It includes an academic talk from Dr Aqeel Abdulla on the topic of representation, misrepresentation and self-representation of refugees and asylum seekers in the arts. This academic talk will open up into a conversation with the audience and other invited guests about the role of the arts in offering a fair and balanced representation of refugees and their circumstances, challenges, and aspirations.

Following this talk-discussion, there will be a participatory session of African drumming, during which attendees will learn some basic African Djembe beats. This part of the evening will be led by Allan Kerr from Shumba Arts, a Devon-based participatory African art group.

Refreshments (food & drink) will be available.

We look forward to welcoming you to this event.
