Waxing Virginia
Virginia Woolf Building, Strand Campus, London

As Wax Virginia prepares to leave the Virginia Woolf Building, Istanbul Queer Art Collective and Lizzie Stewart will wax poetic in an experimental performance in the building foyer. The performance will use quotes from Virginia Woolf’s novels, diaries and letters making use of repetition and layering as a form of experimental reading of both literature and history.
Using the statue, created by sculptor Eleanor Crook, as a found object, the performance will create a humorous and playful world of sounds. Waxing Virginia is durational and the audience is welcome to come and go as they please. Visitors from outside King's must register in advance to attend though.
The event is organised by Dr Lizzie Stewart and Professor Anna Snaith and is funded by the Dean’s Opportunity Fund in collaboration with the Department of English and Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.
Istanbul Queer Art Collective (IQAC) is a performance duo, founded by Tuna Erdem and Seda Ergul in 2012, based in London. IQAC engages in live art with a view that the documentation of performance is an art form in itself. Their performances embody radical drag and explore the queer art of failure. Their work has been exhibited at places like the ICA, Copeland Gallery, Ugly Duck, Bonington Gallery, Framer Framed, Dzialdov, Pose Gallery, Ark Kultur, Bilsart, Photobastei, Museum Kurhaus Kleve, Badischer Kunstverein.
