War Above the Battlefield: Continuing the Discussion on Air and Space Power in Ukraine

Online

04Apr4April

The Freeman Air and Space Institute (FASI) is pleased to invite you to a follow-up discussion on the role of air and space power in Ukraine’s fight for survival.

Our initial webinar on February 28 generated an insightful and urgent discussion, but given the fast-moving developments in the conflict and the depth of the topic, we simply ran out of time. This follow-up event aims to continue the conversation, address key emerging issues, and ensure that participants have the opportunity to ask questions and share insights.

Join us as we revisit key themes—including Ukraine’s air and missile defense resilience, Russia’s aerospace forces under embargo, and the strategic use of counterspace capabilities—while also examining the latest shifts on the battlefield and in the broader diplomatic landscape.

Chaired by Dr. Reyhaneh Noshiravani, this session will once again bring together leading experts on air and space power to provide fresh insights and respond to audience questions.

Meet the panel:

Join us for Part II.

Dr. Julia Muravska – Visiting Senior Research Fellow at FASI and Senior Associate Fellow at the NATO Defence College (NDC). Dr. Muravska specializes in European defense policy, defense industrial cooperation, and emerging security challenges. Her work examines Ukraine’s evolving air defense landscape and the role of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) in modern warfare.

Dr. Marina Miron – Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of War Studies, King’s College London. Dr. Miron specializes in modern warfare, military strategy, and space security. Her research highlights Russia’s counterspace capabilities, the strategic use of anti-satellite (ASAT) weapons, and the implications for NATO’s reliance on space-based technologies.

Dr. Daniel Salisbury – Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Science and Security Studies (CSSS), King’s College London. Dr. Salisbury’s research focuses on arms control, proliferation, and defense trade restrictions. His analysis explores the resilience of Russia’s Aerospace Forces under prolonged Western sanctions, including its strategies for circumventing embargoes and sustaining its air force.

If you attended our first discussion or if you are keen to engage with this crucial topic, we encourage you to join us for this important follow-up.
