Using GenAI to Enhance Understanding in Dissertation Projects
The use of AI, particularly Generative AI, in higher education is becoming pervasive. Using Higher Education dissertation projects as a case study we will examine GenAI’s potential as an educational tool in contexts where students must master substantial information with limited formal teaching, and where so much of the work going into a dissertation project is not directly assessed.
In this workshop we will consider how GenAI can support students to develop their understanding during the stages of a research project which precede the preparation of the final summative assessment.
This workshop will address two key perspectives:
- How GenAI tools can understand the learner
- How learners can use GenAI to deepen their understanding
Following this, we will explore the use of GenAI to scaffold and optimise supervision of students including development of their metacognition.
You do not need any prior knowledge of AI to enjoy this event. This workshop will particularly appeal to students and educators. Participants should bring a laptop or tablet on which they can access a GenAI tool such as Microsoft CoPilot.
