It’s clear there are continued challenges to making the DFE National Plan for Music Education a success; a recent report from Music Mark reveals the cost of delivering the plan far outweighs the allocated funding, and alongside broader challenges to all pathways in music education an existential crisis for the discipline of music is evident.
Dr Steven Berryman will consider the trajectory of recent policy initiatives, with a focus on primary and secondary education, and consider how higher education may intervene to ensure the range of musicological disciplines, and certain musical practices, continue to be viable routes for those who wish to pursue it.
