Description: This month’s webinar coincides with the Conference of the Parties to the Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (A/CPPNM) 2022.

The coming into force of the Amendment to the CPPNM in 2016 is considered a major milestone in the development of the international legal framework for nuclear security. This webinar will discuss the evolution of the international nuclear security regime and the changing role of the IAEA since the end of the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) process in 2016.

Speakers will also discuss the A/CPPNM’s implementation, the importance of the upcoming A/CPPNM review conference, and the next steps for the international nuclear security regime.

Biographies

Dr Sarah Tzinieris is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Science and Security Studies (CSSS), based in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. She holds a MPhil and PhD in International Relations from the University of Cambridge, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Dr Trevor Findlay is a Principal Fellow at the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne, Australia and a former Senior Research Fellow with the Project on Managing the Atom.

Mr Alex Barrow is the Global Development Lead for Security & Resilience at Nuclear Transport Solutions – a leading global provider of safe, secure, and reliable nuclear transport. Prior to joining NTS, Alex was Head of International Nuclear Security and Safeguards Policy at the UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Dr Geoffrey Chapman is a Research Associate at the CSSS, King’s College London. His research focuses on British nuclear security in the aftermath of Brexit and the Coronavirus pandemic.
