Supporting bereaved children and young people in schools

Online session held on Microsoft Teams

Abstract

Death is a universal human experience affecting countless young people every day, including 1 in 29 bereaved of a parent before the age of 16. This seminar presents a British Educational Research Association funded research project – Grief Matters – highlighting the benefits of bereavement awareness sessions as part of an initial teacher training programme. The seminar includes an interview with primary school teacher Emma Marfleet, who has lived experience of end-of-life hospice care as a widow and mother of three young boys.
