Dr Lerong Lu is Lecturer in International Financial Law at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London. He specialises in banking law, financial regulation, corporate law and corporate finance, and fintech law. Dr Lu is the programme director for the King’s LLM in Law and Technology (forthcoming 2021), as well as serving as the director for the King’s English Law & Hong Kong Law and English Law & Singapore Law dual-degree programmes. Dr Lu holds a PhD in Law and a LLM (with Distinction) from the University of Leeds. Before entering academia, Dr Lu practiced corporate and financial law at an international law firm.

The Dickson Poon School of Law is pleased to launch our new postgraduate study programme: Master of Laws (LLM) in Law and Technology. We will start to accept the first cohort of LLM students specialising in Law and Technology in 2021, and the new programme will be led by Dr Lerong Lu who is an expert in International Financial Law and Fintech.

Our LLM course is a respected academic qualification recognised throughout the world and across key legal disciplines. It focuses on our particular areas of expertise and offers a choice of eight specialist pathways or a general LLM qualification. The latest LLM in Law and Technology is an internationally recognised master degree which offers students a rare opportunity to systematically acquire knowledge and understanding in the interdisciplinary areas of Law and Technology.

We provide a wide range of modules taught by leading academics and practitioners, such as e-commerce law, cyberspace law, biotechnology and health law, intellectual property and copyright, media law, law of artificial intelligence, law of cryptocurrencies and blockchain, international financial law and venture capital, law and policy of financial technology, and competition law in relation to digital economy. The education will focus on cultivating students’ problem-solving skills, the critical thinking ability, and the adaptability to the ever-changing economy of 21st century which has been driven by breakthrough technological innovations. The LLM in Law and Tech will greatly improve students’ employability for the future’s job market across various industries like law, banking & finance, technology, business consultancy, and the public sector.

The department's impact on society.

The Dickson Poon School of Law is distinguished by its problem-based approach, exploring the role of law in solving today’s global problems. Currently we work closely and have greatest impact in:

  • Shaping legislative change and legal principle: School research has shaped legislation and case law around the world.
  • Developing best practice in public and private institutions and shaping governmental and quasi-governmental policy: our staff engage with organisations in fields including medical law and ethics, criminal justice, trade and investment, and human rights to develop best practice.
  • Building partnerships with civil society and business: in keeping with the School’s transnational focus international partnerships have been particularly encouraged.
  • Informing public debate: our staff regularly contribute articles and interviews to print media, blogs and websites, radio, and television, as well as giving prestigious public lectures.
