The African Leadership Centre (ALC) is delighted to announce our next (online) research seminar on Tuesday 24 May 2022 at 10:30 – 12:00 BST/ 12:30-14:00 EAT
The session examines local ownership of interventions by community members in the management of communal water supply projects in Nairobi’s informal settlements.
Through analysing data from 194 water supply projects in various informal settlements within Nairobi City County, it seeks to establish if, and to what extent locals have been included and outlines the benefits, in terms of social capital, that engagement of locals brings.
We conclude that in order to address first-order water scarcity (of the resource), it is important to address second-order issues such as the social tools that must be harnessed to sustainably manage the scarce resource.
