In this seminar hosted by the Centre for Implementation Science and King’s Improvement Science, Professor Judith Smith will explore the findings of new NIHR-funded research into board leadership and governance of NHS hospitals in England, with a particular focus on how these organisations responded to the findings of the 2013 public inquiry into the serious care failings that occurred at the Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust (the Francis Inquiry).
The research was commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care’s Policy Research Programme, as part of a set of studies examining the impact of the Francis Inquiry Report, and undertaken by a team from Alliance Manchester Business School, the University of Birmingham and the Nuffield Trust.
Professor Judith Smith is director of the Health Services Management Centre (HSMC) at the University of Birmingham. She is Director of the BRACE Rapid Evaluation Centre (2018-2023) funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), and Non-Executive Director of the Birmingham Women and Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
The Centre for Implementation Science and King’s Improvement Science are part of NIHR CLAHRC South London a research organisation working to improve health and care services.
These seminars are open to anyone interested in implementation and improvement. There is no need to book a place.
