This online Lunch & Learn for World Refugee Day will share information about the King's University Refugee Community Sponsorship scheme, through which King’s College London became the first university to be accredited as a Community Sponsor. In December 2021, King’s resettled a Syrian refugee student and their family under this scheme, helping them to make London and King’s their new home. Dr Leonie Ansems De Vries, the Co-Director of the King’s Sanctuary Programme and Chair of the Migration Research Group, will share how this scheme was developed and how it has been adapted in partnership with Citizens UK and others to support UK universities to host displaced Ukrainian students and academics.
Attendees will also learn more about Community Sponsorship from Sponsor Refugees, the Citizens UK foundation for Community Sponsorship of refugees. Sponsor Refugees will share how attendees can get involved in community sponsorship groups in their local areas through hosting and wrap-around support volunteering roles.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear about the experience of hosts who have supported refugees and discover ways that they can provide support guests through volunteering.
This event will take place on Microsoft Teams. All welcome to attend.
