Featuring: King's Brazil Ensemble

The King's Brazil Ensemble, in collaboration with the Latin American Security Research Group, welcomes you to a concert of revolutionary music from Chile. Our centrepiece work will be the Santa María de Iquique cantata, composed in 1969 by Luis Advis Vitaglich in commemoration of the massacre of miners in the northern Chilean city of Iquique following their fierce protests in 1907.

The programme will also include the much-loved and unifying Gracias a la vida by Chilean folk singer Violeta Parra, the heartbreaking yet hopeful La Partida by 1970s musician and political activist Víctor Jara, and the iconic Chilean protest song Pueblo Unido.

The King's Brazil Ensemble is a musical group that performs a wide range of Brazilian, Latin American, and Lusophone music, including world premieres by leading Latin American composers. Recent concerts include performances at the Brazilian and Chilean embassies as well as across King's College.

We look forward to seeing you there!
