The student-led KCL Strand Film Festival returns for its eighth instalment, with an exciting programme of features, short films and discussions, all themed around questions of 'Identity in Films'. No matter what your interest, there's something for everyone, and best of all, tickets are free!

This year's festival opens on Friday 29/11, with Cinematic Journey to Minzu, a celebration of the diversity of contemporary China via two recent documentaries about ethnic minority cultures.

On Monday 02/12, the festival continues Tales of the Earth: Animated Legends from Every Continent, a curated collection of short films that take you on a mythical journey around the world, exploring the folklore of an array of different cultures. The animation of identity continues on Tuesday 03/12, with The Animated Self: Identity and Travel in Animation, featuring Jonah Poher Rasmussen's award-winning animated feature, Flee, and a series of short films.

On Witchy Wednesday 04/12, the short film programme Witches & Bitches: An Exploration Of Female Rage Through the Ages peers into the crystal ball to conjure up the cinematic spell that turned historic "witches" into modern-day "bitches", with films starring Bella Ramsay and Amanda Seyfried, as well as a rare opportunity to see Emerald Fennel's Careful How You Go (2018) starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Then, on Thursday 05/12, all agents are being paged as we reimagine the spy movie subgenre (and celebrate female spies) via a special screening of Angela Robinson's cult classic, D.E.B.S (2004).

The festival comes to a close on Friday 06/12, as we pay tribute to the groundbreaking legacy of pioneering (and controversial) writer William S. Burroughs via a specially-created 'archival mixtape' and a special introduction from cult cinema expert, Dr Iain Robert Smith.

The KCL Strand Film Festival (29 November - 6 December 2024) takes place at King's College London's Strand campus, and is curated by students on the Film Festivals and Film Festival Studies module in the Department of Film Studies.
