The 2024 Informatics Research Showcase provided a unique opportunity to meet with King’s academics and Informatics students working across AI, Large Language Models, cybersecurity, software systems, digital healthcare, blockchain technologies, green computing and more.
The event featured demonstrations on:
- teaching robots to play safe using human words
- use of visual algorithmics to assist exoskeleton gloves in restoring grip functionality
- use of AI tools for a variety of tasks from generating smart employment contracts to finding the right local school
It also featured an app from graduating student Lubna Taraki and year-mates, who worked with Richmond and Wandsworth Councils to design a new way of providing feedback from teenagers to the council as they transitioned between social service provision. The team has since gone on to set up a company ‘Bytheway’ to further develop the technology.
The posters on offer this year covered the breadth of research activity taking place in the department, examples being:
- Assessing the risk of machine learning for Cybersecurity
- Using AI to support computer programming teaching
- Privacy concerns and common practises for Chinese Smart Home device manufacturers
- Fostering responsible AI with standardised data documentation formats
- Autonomous AI design assistants for games, virtual worlds and digital art
- Improving the sustainability of software
If you would like to hear more about any of these projects, or would like to collaborate with our academics and students on new challenges, please do get in touch with the Informatics Enterprise team: informatics-enterprise@kcl.ac.uk
