Dr. Walter Ladwig III will present his research on US' foreign policy in the Indo-Pacific. Dr Ladwig will touch the Biden Administration's new policy towards the region, and its evolution for the previous Administration of Donald J. Trump's approach to the Indo-Pacific framework. Finally, he will discuss the US' new National Strategy impact in the long term in the Indo-Pacific great power competition with China. An open Q&A session will follow the presentation.

Dr Walter Ladwig III

Dr Walter C Ladwig III is a political scientist specialising in US foreign policy, South Asian security, irregular warfare, and the geopolitics of the Indo-Pacific. His teaching primarily concentrates on the conduct of statecraft and Cold War history. His first book, The Forgotten Front: Patron-Client Relationships in Counter Insurgency (Cambridge 2017), examines the often-difficult relations between the US and local governments it is supporting in counterinsurgency. He is currently writing a book on Indian defence policy.

Professor Christophe Jaffrelot

Christophe Jaffrelot is Avantha Chair and Professor of Indian Politics and Sociology at the King's India Institute and also the Research Lead for the Global Institutes, King’s College London. He teaches South Asian politics and history at Sciences Po, Paris and is an Overseas Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He was Director of Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches Internationales (CERI) at Sciences Po, between 2000 and 2008.
