With the Indo-Pacific emerging as one of the major geopolitical innovations in the post-Cold War era, major actors such as the United States, and India, have developed structured strategic policies towards this region. The transition from the Trump Administration to the Biden Administration, has registered a continuity in terms of engagement with the Indo-Pacific concept, which has recently been redefined in the new US National Strategy document. While cooperation with the Quad continues to remain a central point of action for Washington, in other areas, such as the Pacific, the US seems less capable of addressing the concerns of a growing Chinese influence. For its part, since the 2018 Shangri La conference, India under Prime Minister Modi has double it's outreach in the region, imposing itself as a recognized security provider, and a strong pillar of and open, free and inclusive Indo-Pacific. With the world emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic with new challenges to face, the Indian government is advancing its agenda to forge a stable regional order in the Indo-Pacific. Professor Harsh V. Pant will present in this special lecture the evolving strategies of the United States, and of India, and will address the current challenges that are at the core of the geopolitics of the Indo-Pacific region.
