Humour: An Interfaith Celebration, is an exploration of that common human experience, laughter, as manifested and understood through various religious traditions. What might be perceived as funny in one’s faith tradition might be considered blasphemous in another. Humour is a potent force for instantiating in-groups, building new friendships, and deepening relationships. However, it is also the cause of much grief, offence, and broken bonds of trust. How might we celebrate the distinct contributions of varied religious traditions and their understandings of humour? Is comedy a way to strengthen inter-faith relations?

In celebration of Inter Faith Week at King’s College London, the Chaplaincy and the Theology & Religious Studies Student Society have come together in collaboration. Humour attempts to situate academic conversations alongside comedians as valid sites for knowledge and relationship building. Through a slightly more light-hearted approach, Humour prioritises the celebration of religious (and non-religious) diversity through shared human commonality—laughter—as the potential advent for new friendships.
