Christian Apfelbacher is Director of the Institute of Social Medicine and Health Systems Research, Medical Faculty of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and Visiting Professor of Health Services Research at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU Singapore.

His background is in public health, medical sociology and health services research. Key research interests include the (clinical) epidemiology of skin and allergic diseases, patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures across a wide range of chronic and critical diseases, core outcome sets (COS) for research and practice, health literacy and evidence synthesis. 

He has been involved in several developing COS for clinical trials and practice, for example the Harmonising Outcome Measures for Eczema (HOME) and the Core Outcome Measures for Food Allergy (COMFA) initiatives.
