Speakers

Alexandra Pollitt is Director of Research at the Policy Institute. She works on a wide range of topics, but her main focus is science policy. Her recent work includes a series of studies estimating the economic returns of biomedical research, a study mapping the global mental health research funding landscape and a scientometric evaluation of the European Research Council’s portfolio. She has carried out extensive work on the societal impact of research, including a comparison of the relative value researchers and the public place on different kinds of impact.

Alex has expertise in a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and has taught research methods, communications and project management internationally. She holds an MA in Experimental Psychology from Oxford University and previously worked in psychiatry research at the University of Cambridge. Before joining King’s, Alex spent six years working in policy research and analysis at RAND Europe. She has also worked in impact evaluation for an international NGO.

Dr Suzanne Hall is Director of Engagement at the Policy Institute. She is a highly skilled qualitative researcher with 20 years of public policy research experience. She led the qualitative research team at Ipsos MORI, an independent research agency, from 2013 and in that role was responsible for skills development, growing the business and embedding new and innovative approaches to solving policy problems with a focus on deliberative, participatory, ethnographic and digital methodologies. Suzanne has worked for both national and international clients across a range of policy areas including trust in government and polarisation, the value of evidence, work and welfare, ageing and inequality.

As Director of Engagement at the Policy Institute, Suzanne will be responsible for embedding qualitative and deliberative methods in the work of the Policy Institute, and developing new, innovative approaches to involving citizens in policy making, ensuring the work it does continues to have impact. Suzanne also represents the Policy Institute on the Ageing Research at King's (ARK) Committee.

Professor Brooke Rogers OBE is a Professor of Behavioural Science and Security in the Department of War Studies at King’s College, where she is also Deputy Head of Department and Director of Academic Staffing. In September 2022 she was appointed to the role of Vice Dean (People & Planning) for the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy.

Professor Rogers is a social psychologist with an exceptional track record of designing and delivering over £25 million of collaborative research projects funded by a variety of sources. Her work focuses on perceptions of and responses to risk and threat, and risk communication. The majority of these projects investigate public and practitioner responses to low likelihood, high-impact events such as chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) accidents or attacks. Others explore protecting crowded places; business continuity resilience; pathways into violent radicalisation; insider threat; pandemics; and community resilience.

Professor Rogers is the Chair of the Cabinet Office (CO) National Risk Assessment and National Security Risk Assessment Behavioural Science Expert Group, and the Home Office Science Advisory Council (HOSAC). She maintains membership across a number of advisory groups including the Home Office OSCT Analysis and Research Programme Challenge Board; Public Health England’s Behavioural Science Advisory Group; and the Greater London Authority London Resilience Academic Partnership, among others. She also advises international organisations including the International Atomic Energy Association (IAEA), the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
