The workshop in filmmaking, led by Ivana Bevilacqua, will be an opportunity to explore the creative and technical aspects of filming processes. The session will last three hours, and it is open to all King’s students.
Participants will have the opportunity to received knowledge on film theory but also to practice several filming techniques and receive feedback accordingly through interactive activities. The workshop will be spilt in three parts: an Introduction to video production, a Practicum and an introduction to editing and post-production.
Participants will be instructed in the foundational aspects of filmmaking:
- Storytelling analysis
- Film Tone
- Composition
- Production Design
- Film Blocking
- Camera Movement
During the practicum, participants will work in small groups to shoot and produce a short movie. They will adopt different techniques and assess the issues encountered in the process of filmmaking. Then, participants will work on editing and post-production, ending with a final screening of their work.

Ivana Bevilacqua is a Researcher and Graduate Teaching Assistant in Human Geography at KCL. Her work interrogates the fraught intersections of race, Indigeneity, settler colonialism, and sexuality. In her work, characterised by a multi-sensory approach, she combines academic investigation with art-based methodologies and artistic practice.
To further examine this approach, she collaborated with the Arts Cabinet, where she focused on settler colonialism and indigenous resistance. Examples of her work using creative methods can be found here:
