The early French Revolutionary Wars are traditionally considered to have been a period of British failure, marked by strategic paralysis and political and financial crisis. But by 1798, His Majesty’s Navy had defeated the French maritime federation, releasing Britain from the unlimited threat of invasion, and the nation had agreed to support the war with renewed determination.
This event, with Rachel Blackman-Rodgers, will explore strategic and cultural evolution to consider how this success was achieved.
