Exploring the Career Benefits of Postgraduate Study in Philosophy: Perspectives from BAME Scholars

Strand Campus, London

03Marstudent services careers feb 2023 hero

On 3 March the Department of Philosophy is holding a careers event for philosophy students, with a particular focus on postgraduate study. We have a range of exciting speakers who will share their advice on how to use a philosophy degree outside of academia, how to market yourself, how to get into academia, and how to plan what to do next when your undergraduate degree finishes. There will be two panel events, a spoken word performance, and complimentary refreshments.

Speakers will include Anisa Almjbarae (The Royal Institute of Philosophy), Tareeq Jalloh (University of Manchester Philosophy), Nikhil Venkatesh (King's Law), Theodora Bakare (HSBC), James Carey (Q5), Boaz Adelekan (Artist), and Yinka Adesina (KCL Careers). There will be a focus on the perspectives of Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) scholars and professionals.

Here are some of the benefits of attending this event:

  • Learn about what is practically involved in applying for and studying for a postgraduate degree in philosophy
  • Learn how philosophy skills are applied in fields like finance (HSBC), public intellectualism (The Royal Institute ofPhilosophy), and beyond
  • Discover how postgraduate philosophy degrees can lead to both academic and non-academic career successes, including in unconventional fields
  • Network with professionals and academics and gain valuable advice on how to leverage your degree in the workforce

This event is open to all students on a philosophy degree course (single or combined honours) and offers valuable insights for everyone. We especially encourage second and third years to attend. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about thechallenges, triumphs, and unique perspectives of these scholars while reflecting on your own potential journey.
