Explainable AI for Health & Medicine

Online

Artificial intelligence (AI) has made significant progress over the past few decades, particularly in terms of accuracy and the range of problems it can address. As the parameters and functions used during the learning process are fine-tuned, AI models become increasingly effective, even within complex architectures. This success, however, raises important questions for healthcare, where the use of AI introduces both legal and ethical concerns.

Among these, one critical issue stands out: the explainability of AI models. Legally, there is the responsibility of clinicians regarding the model's decisions. Ethically, there is a need to understand the results to accurately assess the risks and benefits for patients. The lack of explainability of most of the successful models currently available remains the first obstacle preventing their widespread adoption in healthcare and medicine.

This talk explores this challenge and discusses current trends that might pave the way for a bright and secure future for AI in the realm of health and medicine.
