A panel discussion organised as part of the ESRC Centre for Society and Mental Health Conference 2024

As the UK’s major political party conferences take place, we invite you to join us for this important conversation as we put mental health at the top of the agenda. We’ll bring together expert panellists and our audience to unpack the causes of inequalities in mental health outcomes in the UK and how these disparities can be addressed.

Drawing on the latest findings from our Centre’s research, we invite panellists and audience to consider this question: we know inequalities matter and have a huge impact on mental health, why are we so bad at doing something about it?

We’ll wrap up by thinking about the future – exploring how researchers, people with lived experience, healthcare professionals, community groups and anyone interested in more equal mental health outcomes, can work together for change.

We’re excited to announce that our panel will be chaired by Claudia Hammond, award-winning broadcaster, author and psychology lecturer, presenter of All in the Mind on BBC Radio 4.

Come along for the panel discussion to hear and discuss insights on inequalities and mental health with our panellists and audience members, with contributions from:

  • Claudia Hammond - broadcaster, author and psychology lecturer, presenter of All in the Mind on BBC Radio 4 (Chair)
  • Kwajo Tweneboa – social housing campaigner and artist
  • Will Snell – Chief Executive of the Fairness Foundation
  • Alison Garnham – Chief Executive of the Child Poverty Action Group
  • And more, including ESRC Centre for Society and Mental Health researchers Karen Glaser and Cassie Lovelock and Andy Bell from the Centre for Mental Health
