King’s Music Department is delighted to welcome world-renowned singers Meili Li and Reginald Mobley as visiting artists (2024-2026), in partnership with the AHRC CounterTenor scheme.
CounterTenor is an artists’ residence programme supported by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), hosted at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon, in academic partnership with the Department of Music, King’s College London. The Programme invites artists of international standing, whose backgrounds and lived experience may not suggest performing western early music as an obvious career choice, to explore collections held in the UK's galleries, libraries, archives, museums and universities. Working in collaboration with curators, creatives, academics and musical ensembles, they will curate a programme of outputs – including performances, commissions for new music, podcasts and blogs – reflecting their research findings, their journey as artists and their contribution to the future of both artistic practice and musical canon.
On our 16th October colloquium, Meili and Reginald will share more about their professional journey and their plans within the CounterTenor scheme. The colloquium is followed by a reception.
