An evening of lectures, Q&A session and reception addressing the importance of nutrition within sport.
Two guest speakers:
- Dr Jessica Piasecki, International Athlete and Lecturer in Exercise Physiology at Nottingham Trent University. Dr Piasecki is a member of the Musculoskeletal Physiology Research Group at Nottingham Trent University and her areas of research include bone health and the role of nutrition in development. She competed as an international athlete in both the European and World Cross Country Championships in 2018/9.
- Dr Oliver Witard, Senior Lecturer in Exercise Metabolism and Nutrition at King's College London. Dr Witard is a member of the Centre for Human & Applied Physiological Sciences at King's College London and his main area of research is Sport and Exercise Nutrition. In 2019, he coauthored the International Association of Athletics Federations Consensus Statement: Nutrition for Athletics. He led the theme of Dietary Protein for Training Adaptation and Body Composition Manipulation in Track and Field Athletes.
Their combined academic and sporting experience will provide an in-depth understanding of particular research areas including fuelling as an athlete. A question and answer session will allow attendees to pursue topics of further interest and exploration.
The Q&A panel will include speakers:
Peta Bee, health and fitness journalist writing for the Times, Sunday Times, Athletics Weekly
Bill Foster, club women's middle distance and endurance coach, University of Loughborough, and former international athlete
Tom Fairbrother, marathon runner and co-founder of the #TRAINBRAVE campaign.
