In order to capitalise on the many potential benefits of XR, it will be important to ensure that the technologies and experiences of the future are designed to work hand-in-hand with human cognition. XR technologies can deliver rich and compelling multisensory experiences, but they also risk overloading users with ever-increasing amounts of information and complicated interaction. I will outline some relevant recent findings from the StoryFutures audience team with the aim of prompting a discussion of how we can make the most of XR functionality without overloading people.
