Join us for the first Climate Energy Governance & Finance (CEGF) workshop, which aims to facilitate interdisciplinary discussions and collaborations on issues at the intersection of financial and regulatory reactions to climate risks and energy transitions.
Themes of the workshop will include, but are not limited to:
- Implications of physical and transition risks for financial markets and financial intermediaries
- Governance regimes of the climate transition
- Energy market regulation
- ESG investing
- Innovations in green finance and their role in the transition to net-zero
- Effectiveness of existing climate regulation
Jointly organised by the Qatar Centre for Global Banking & Finance and the Climate Law and Governance Centre, the first workshop will take place on Thursday 2 December 2021 and features talks by:
- Mark Manning, Technical Specialist on Sustainable Finance, Financial Conduct Authority
- Dr Robyn Klingler-Vidra, Reader in Political Economy at King's College London
- Dr Megan Bowman, Director of the Climate Law and Governance Centre at King's College London and Reader in Law
We invite scholars in Economics, Finance, Law, and related disciplines to present work related to climate economics, regulation, and governance. Speakers will have an opportunity to engage with and receive feedback from an interdisciplinary audience. PhD students are encouraged to attend.
About the Speakers
Mark Manning is a Technical Specialist on Sustainable Finance at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), focusing on sustainable finance and investor stewardship. Mark is leading the FCA’s work on climate-related financial disclosures and also represents the FCA on both the Treasury’s joint taskforce on TCFD implementation and the issuer disclosures workstream of IOSCO’s Sustainable Finance Taskforce. Prior to joining the FCA, Mark spent a long career in central banking at the Bank of England and the Reserve Bank of Australia.
Dr Robyn Klingler-Vidra is a Senior Lecturer in Political Economy at King's College London. Prior to joining the Department of International Development, she was a Lecturer in the Department of European and International Studies, also at King's. She was concurrently the Head of Policy Research at the Coller Institute of Venture at Tel Aviv University from 2013-2016.
Dr Megan Bowman is Director of the Centre for Climate Law and Governance at King's College London and Reader (Associate Professor). She also leads the King’s/United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) partnership on Legal Readiness for Climate Finance, consults to national governments and prominent NGOs on implementing the Paris Agreement, and is a Visiting Professor at Université de Paris-Dauphine on EU Corporate Law.
