Talk title: “Did the Chief Medical Officer's 2023 report focus too much on rural older adults?”
Chris Whitty’s latest annual report 2023 presents an incomplete and skewed picture of the geography of older people in England. While the CMO report suggested there was a greater concentration of older people and so health care need in rural areas, we use Census 2021 data to show that there are many more older people in urban areas in absolute terms. Furthermore, these urban-dwelling older adults are in worse health. We’ll discuss the implications for future health care provision, and there will be colourful maps too!
