Catch up on the discussion

The Labour manifesto has two clear messages on higher education: that our universities are a world-leading asset for the UK – and that the current funding model doesn’t work for universities, staff, students or taxpayers. The sector is approaching a crisis point but is vital to delivering Labour’s growth and opportunity missions, where stronger links between higher and further education and supporting Labour’s post-16 skills strategy will be key. This session will explore the challenges and opportunities, with insights from an expert panel.

Panel

  • Baroness Jacqui Smith; Minister of State (Minister for Skills)
  • Baroness Margaret Hodge; Former Minister of State (Education)
  • Professor Shitij Kapur; Vice-Chancellor & President, King’s College London
  • James Purnell; President & Vice-Chancellor, University of the Arts London
