Celebrate with us the quincentennial of the birth of Luís de Camões, Portugal's most iconic poet. This exhibition brings to life the timeless beauty of his poetic works through a display of rare editions from the Foyle collection alongside adaptations that bridge literature and visual art.

These adaptations bring to life women from diverse racial, class, and cultural backgrounds, challenging the traditional Petrarchan poetic canon and offering a fresh, inclusive perspective on classic literature.

Central to this celebration are seven women who have been muses, characters, and symbols in Camoes' poetry: Dinamene, Barbara, Lianor, Menina dos Olhos Verdes, Catarina, Violante and Francisca.

We invite you to explore these creative intersections where poetry meets image, and past meets present, offering a new understanding of Camões' work that continues to inspire and captivate.
