Black History Month: Reclaiming narratives through art - a conversation with Black artists

The African Leadership Centre (ALC) invites you to our second student-led event of the year commemorating Black History Month at King’s College London.

This event seeks to honour Black artists in the UK by creating a platform for them to showcase their work and engage with King’s students and faculty. We aim to illuminate their distinct challenges and achievements, fostering a deeper understanding of how their personal experiences influence their art and narratives.

Welcome remarks and a keynote address will be followed by a discussion with a panel of Black artists in the UK. 

  • Welcome remarks by Professor Eka Ikpe, Director of the African Leadership Centre and Professor in Development Economics in Africa;
  • Keynote address by Esther Wadazani Mano, African Scholar in Peace, Security and Development Fellow;
  • Panelists/Artists: Zara Abdulrazaq, Husna Imam, Chandni Raithatha, Hauwa Aarifa, Jessica Forbes, Hannah Ekuwa Buckman, Morenike Caxton-Martins, Tomilola;
  • Moderator: Kamila Atta, Associate Fellow MSc Global Leadership & Peacebuilding
  • Speakers: Geoffrey Lou Duke, African Scholar in Peace, Security and Development Fellow, and Amal Mohamed, African Woman in Leadership & Peacebuilding Fellow.
