Douglas Cox is an attorney and Law Library Professor at the City University of New York School of Law. His research focuses on the intersection of information policy and national security, including laws governing the preservation and destruction of government records and archives, classified information, freedom of information laws, and the legal status of documents captured in armed conflict. His publications have appeared in Displaced Archives, the Journal of National Security Law & Policy, the International Journal of Cultural Property, the Los Angeles Times and CNN.
He previously practiced law with Allen & Overy in London and New York where he specialized in cross-border legal issues and litigation. For many years he represented Yemeni citizens detained in Guantanamo Bay in habeas corpus proceedings. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army where he led intelligence collection teams.
