The issue of assisted dying / assisted suicide (the language, as the Health and Social Care Select Committee of the Westminster Parliament noted in its recent report, is itself one around which there is not consensus) is high on the political agenda, with legislation at different stages around the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man and Jersey.

On 29 November, Kim Leadbeater MP’s Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill will have its second reading in the House of Commons. It is not yet published, but it is anticipated that it will follow the broad model of previous Bills before the Westminster Parliament, including most recently that presented by Lord Falconer in the House of Lords, based upon three key pillars: (1) terminal illness; (2) capacity; and (3) approval by a High Court Judge.

39 Essex Chambers present in conjunction with the King’s College London-based Complex Life and Death Decisions Research Group a webinar, chaired by Vikram Sachdeva KC, which will provide an overview of current developments, and address each of the three pillars set out above.

Please note this webinar will not be recorded.
