The advent of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is revolutionising the way we approach learning and assessment. This talk describes the approach to integrating GenAI into assessment design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which was the first university in Hong Kong to organise professional development sessions for staff on GenAI. We will explore the critical connections between the purpose of learning, potential future realities, and assessment (re)design. We will also discuss some of the challenges brought by the change of mentality in the GenAI era, particularly in terms of the way academic literacy, language and communication skills can be acquired.
