You are invited to join us for a virtual round-table discussion to contribute and share insights on how organisations can devise more meaningful responses to help the UK eradicate the critical issue of modern slavery.
There will be an opportunity for you to hear about the standard BS25700 and to explore with the current challenges organisations face addressing modern slavery risks whilst dealing with a changing international legislative landscape and stronger pressures to demonstrate positive ESG impacts.
The UK business environment is changing. The new government has pledged to improve workers’ rights and to tackle the business model of human trafficking who often are victims of modern slavery. For the construction sector, the government has set the bold target of building 1.5 million homes in five years which may create an environment for playing fast and loose if pro-growth and pro-responsibility strategies are not aligned. These are game changer news for UK businesses.
The Transparency in Supply Chains (TISC) provision in the Modern Slavery Act 2015 has had limited impact on organisational behaviour within the UK. Meanwhile, Europe is moving towards mandatory due diligence, setting a new standard for businesses dedicated to respecting workers' rights and eradicating modern slavery.
Today, collaboration is happening among key players in the construction sector and built environment sector. However, below the surface, a large majority of organisations are still lacking understanding of how to address modern slavery risks effectively.
Time is critical for businesses to adapt and align pro-growth strategies with responsible practices. It is essential to move beyond mere compliance and towards substantive action in combating modern slavery by putting people at the centre.
If there are others within your organisation who would be interested in participating, please feel free to forward this invitation.
Your participation will be invaluable in driving the change towards ethical business practices and I look forward to your presence and contribution to this important discussion as part of Anti-Slavery Week 2024.
Please note this event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
