Description

In 2016, the Japanese government articulated its Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy. This vision has been regarded by international observers as an alternative to the Chinese-sponsored Belt and Road Initiative. What are its components? What is the maritime contribution to this vision? Admiral Takei - retired Chief of Maritime Staff and author of strategic documents that have defined the country’s naval behaviour over the past decades explains its meaning from a Japanese naval perspective.

About the speaker:

Admiral (ret.) Takei is a distinguished International Fellow with the U.S. Naval War College. He was the Chief of Staff for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).
