The Department of War Studies offers prospective students two unique scholarships to support their MA studies.
The Alexandros Petersen Scholarship
Dr Alexandros Petersen was one of the Department of War Studies' most gifted and conscientious young scholars. His tremendous energy and enthusiasm made a lasting impression on his teachers and contemporaries at King’s.
He founded the London branch of Young Professionals in Foreign Policy and, in a few short years after leaving King’s, made a distinguished and lasting contribution to the field of Eurasian Geopolitics. His death in January 2014 as a result of an attack on a Kabul restaurant was a great tragedy. His achievements are a continued source of pride for the College and all those who knew him.
Following an initial groundswell of support for the creation of a memorial to the life and work of our dear friend, Alexandros Petersen, King’s worked with the Petersen Family to establish The Alexandros Petersen Scholarship at King’s in September 2016. The scholarship programme has been made possible by a transformative $1 million gift from his family and additional contributions from friends and those who knew Alexandros' work. The programme funds at least 22 full Masters Scholarships in the Department.

The Worshipful Company of Bowyers Scholarship for the War Studies MA
One scholarship, generously funded by the Worshipful Company of Bowyers, will be awarded each year to an incoming student on the MA War Studies programme. The scholarship is worth £2000 and will be awarded on the basis of academic record and potential, though the financial need of the applicant will also be considered. The subject area is open, but preference may be given to students intending to write a dissertation on medieval English history.
How do I apply?
The application form, including a statement of interest of up to 500 words (along with a CV of no more than one side of A4 paper), should be submitted to the programme director, Dr Alan James, by 31st August to alan.2.james@kcl.ac.uk.
