The YTL studentship is enabled by a generous contribution from The YTL Group to provide innovative education and inspire a new generation to become visionary thinkers, develop a desire to be the best in their field, and to make a significant, positive, lasting impact in society.
This is a full studentship to be awarded to an incoming PhD student in The Dickson Poon School of Law. The subject area of proposed PhD research must relate to the Centre’s research themes as broadly defined. See the YTL website for more information.
This is a fully funded studentship that includes 3 years of fees + a maintenance stipend at the UKRI level with a London weighting.
For 2024/2025 the UKRI rate was £21,237 and is expected to rise marginally in 2025/26, we will confirm upon award the exact amount.
It will also cover the ‘pending submission’ fee of £350 in the fourth year, with a stipend for maintenance up to the date of submission.

- Must be accepted on the Law Research MPhil/PhD programme for October 2025. The subject area of proposed PhD research must relate to the centre’s research themes as broadly defined.

Award conditions
Awards are offered on the condition that the candidate has met/will meet all the conditions required for acceptance by The Dickson Poon School of Law. Awards are only valid for commencement in October 2025 and cannot be deferred. Awards cannot be transferred to another institution. Full conditions available upon offer.

The application cycle will begin when we open for admissions in October.
Selection process
Applicants will be assessed by our Scholarship Panel in the spring which will rank candidate applications using RCUK scoring. Scoring is based on the applicant’s academic potential (50%) and the quality of their research proposal and alignment with YTL’s research areas (50%). The YTL Centre Director will select one recipient out of the Scholarship Panel shortlist.
