The Hong Kong Scholarship is sponsored by the King’s Alumni Association in Hong Kong. The branch was first formed in 1982 for the benefit of King’s alumni living in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Scholarship is sponsored by the King’s Alumni Association in Hong Kong. The branch was first formed in 1982 for the benefit of King’s alumni living in Hong Kong. It is the aim of the scholarship to provide support to exceptional students at King’s with the intention that students will return to Hong Kong after graduation to contribute to Hong Kong interests.

The Hong Kong Scholarship aims to support Hong Kong residents planning to study for any three-year undergraduate course at King’s with a scholarship of £15,000 over three years. This prestigious scholarship will be awarded based on academic excellence and personal statement.

Award value

In the 2024-25 academic year, one scholarship will be available. The total value of the award is £15,000 (£5,000 per student annually, for three years maximum).

Students undertaking an undergraduate programme that is more than 3 years may apply but funding will only be given for 3 years. Study abroad years, intercalated years and repeat years are not included with this scholarship. If you are awarded this scholarship, you will be required to submit an annual end of year report until your end of studies and by accepting this award you are agreeing to submit this information. Failure to do so may result in your scholarship being rescinded.

Scholarship recipients may also be invited to meet with members of the Hong Kong Alumni Association and other recipients annually in a private event.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must also meet the following criteria:

  • be a permanent Hong Kong resident

  • have an outstanding record of academic performance

  • provide a personal statement, including what your plans are post-graduation and how you hope to contribute to Hong Kong interests;

  • be undertaking a full-time three-year undergraduate programme at King’s, starting in September  2024. Students undertaking an undergraduate course that is more than 3 years may apply but funding will only be given for 3 years;

  • you should be undertaking your first undergraduate degree;

  • have taken up your maximum entitlement to UK government help with tuition fees and loans/grants for living costs, if eligible;

  • you must have given Student Finance England ‘consent’ to share your financial information with the College, if eligible;

  • have ‘firmly’ accepted an offer of a place at King’s on an eligible programme.
