A list of our available projects can be found here.

The department invites applications for fully-funded PhD studentships to start 01 October 2024, or at a later date during the 2024-25 Academic Year.

Award value

The studentships are funded for 3.5 years and include Tuition Fees, a Stipend at the UK Research Council rate (plus London weighting) and an allowance for research consumables and travel.

Eligibility criteria

Award open to UK and overseas students.

Applicants should have a First-class undergraduate degree or a Distinction at MSc level in Computer Science or another discipline relevant for their PhD project proposal (for example, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or Physics). In exceptional cases other qualifications and experience may be considered and all applications will be assessed on their merit as appropriate.

Application process

To be considered for the position candidates must apply via King’s Apply online application system. Details are available here.

Applicants should start by identifying potential supervisors and contacting them with a summary of their academic background, research interests and general ideas for their PhD research. Information about potential supervisors and their contact details can be found on the departmental website.

If the potential supervisor suggests proceeding with a formal application, then two separate applications should be made: one for entry to the PhD programme via the university online admissions system (following the guidelines available here) and the other for a studentship in a form of a ‘Studentship Application Statement’ sent to the Department PGR Officer at informatics-pgr@kcl.ac.uk.

Selection process

Applicants will be shortlisted based on the documents submitted and, if selected, will be interviewed by a panel of 2-3 academics from the Department.
