Eligibility criteria
Care Leaver and Estranged Bursaries of up to £1,000 per year are available for students who are under 25 and have experience of care or are estranged.
An estranged person is someone who no longer has a relationship or is no longer in contact with their family, and is not supported by them. This might mean biological or adoptive parents or wider family members who have been responsible for supporting the student in the past.
As well as being verified as care-experienced or estranged, students must meet the following criteria:
- Studying an undergraduate degree
- Under 25 on the first day of their course
- Classified as a home fee payer*
*There is discretion for those with EU or Overseas fee status, but whose experience of care was in the United Kingdom
Application process
The bursary is automatically awarded to undergraduate students with their care-experienced or estranged status verified by King’s. To get your status verified, or to check if it already has been, please contact priority-groups@kcl.ac.uk.
Students are encouraged to give UCAS and Student Finance England 'consent to share' their financial information with the college.
